A wonderfully evocative original vintage oil painting capturing a tender moment between a farm worker and his horse. The horse lies on a hillside while the man gently cradles its head, with the wheels of a farm cart visible in the background. There is something particularly moving about this quiet rural scene, beautifully painted in a soft palette of earthy browns, muted greens and pale blues. Signed Gail Palmer in the lower left corner, the painting is believed to date from the 1940s–1950s, although the exact date remains unconfirmed. Painted in oils on Daler artist's board, retaining its original manufacturer's label on the reverse, marked "Handmade at Wareham, England". The painting is presented in an attractive ornate gilt-effect frame with decorative moulded detailing and its traditional metal chain hanger. The second is a beautiful winter landscape featuring an old ivy-covered tree beside a snowy river, with a soft golden sky in the distance. It retains a period label from Cank Street Art Gallery in Leicester. Both paintings are individually signed and offered for sale separately in our Etsy shop, So Nearly Missed. A lovely opportunity to acquire one or both works by the same artist, each with its own distinctive character. Carefully packaged and dispatched from Cornwall, England.
