The Gallery of British Artists – Complete Six-Volume Victorian Subscription Edition A beautiful and substantial collection of six antique Victorian art books, published by The London Printing and Publishing Company Limited. Bound in richly coloured emerald-green cloth, each volume features elaborate embossed decoration, intricate floral borders and ornate gilt detailing. The matching bindings make this an exceptionally attractive collection for a traditional library, study or period interior. The Collection The six volumes celebrate some of Britain's most celebrated artists, including: - J. M. W. Turner - Sir Edwin Landseer - William Powell Frith - Daniel Maclise - Clarkson Stanfield - David Wilkie Across the collection are over 108 finely executed black-and-white engraved plates reproducing important works of British art, alongside descriptive and historical text. The original subscription notice confirms that the work was issued in six divisions. Age and Provenance A handwritten former owner's inscription dated 1879 appears inside, confirming the collection's Victorian origins. Measurements Each volume measures approximately 27 cm × 20 cm. Condition Good overall antique condition considering the age of the collection. The original green cloth bindings retain their attractive colour, decorative embossing and gilt detailing. There is age-related wear to the spines, corners and edges, including rubbing and some splitting to the cloth. The pages show expected age-related toning and occasional marks. All six volumes are present, and the engraved plates have been checked. Please study the photographs carefully, particularly those showing the wear to the bindings. A Wonderful Victorian Collection These books have considerable decorative appeal, but their real attraction lies in the beautiful engraved artwork preserved within their pages. An impressive addition to an antique book collection, traditional library or art lover's home. Sold as one complete six-volume set.
