:  at  £48.00  each

A wonderfully characterful vintage pelican, hand-carved from an exceptionally heavy and dense dark hardwood. The sculpture has a beautifully simplified form, with a long curved bill, rounded body and restrained carved detailing to the wings and eyes. Rich brown-black colouring and visible natural grain give the wood warmth and depth, while its substantial weight makes it feel like a genuinely decorative and well-made piece. The wood was described to me as blackwood and may possibly be ebony or African blackwood; however, the exact timber and country of origin are unconfirmed. CONDITION A lovely vintage piece with minor surface marks and variations consistent with age and previous display. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description. MEASUREMENTS Height: approximately 27.5 cm Width: approximately 19 cm A striking piece of vintage folk art that would work beautifully in a coastal interior, among a collection of carved animals or as a distinctive standalone sculpture.
